A Raincoat for Work
This LIFE magazine image was the story of my life in New York last summer. It seemed like it rained 3 months straight! (I even wrote a post about the best umbrellas ) I’ve always wondered how women arrive to work so put together and I think the key is umbrella, rain coat, rain boots. Sounds simple but finding the right ones is difficult. For example, I bought some cheap rain boots that have a little bit of a wedge or heel on the bottom (it was raining outside and they were the only choice) and I’ve worn them once because I strongly dislike them. They make my feet feel hot, they are heavy, and they are just wrong. I’ve yet to buy the perfect rain coat but I think I found some good options today. Here’s some inspiration for the rain coat look:
Here are my top picks for rain coats this year:
The Gap Hooded Rain Jacket
Coated polyester blend with lining. Zip closure with snap placket, flap patch pockets, elastic band at hood. Tabs at cuffs, attached back belt. It’s only $34! Buy it here (they also have it in pink if you’re feeling girly)
The North Face Grace Rain Jacket
I may be biased because my name is Grace but this jacket is great. Looks a little more heavy duty like it take on a serious rain shower or even a hurricane! Hyvent™ DT 2.5-layer fabric has a microdot inner print and a waterproof barrier that channels moisture outward
Jacket is waterproof yet still lets you breathe easy; all seams are sealed for complete protection. Hood is adjustable and can be completely removed when not wanted. 2-way front zipper has inside draft flap. Zippered sleeve gussets adjust the fit. Trench-coat-style belt can be removed. Features 2 hand pockets and 2 chest pockets with snap flaps; internal zip pocket is designed to store small electronics. Buy it here. (also available in white and green plaid!)
I like big purchases to be more neutral colors but…this Modcloth Rain Coat is pretty cute.
