Friday Fun: 6 Outdoor Activities You Must Do for Spring Break
Spring is officially in the air and for most of us, it means the warmer weather is finally here. No more needing to bundle up in heavy jackets, scarves, and knitted beanies with rosy frostbitten faces. We’re finally able to shed those heavy layers and don something lighter and more colorful. Additionally, with Daylight Savings kicking it, it means (for most of us at least) that we can leave work with the sun still out! Nothing like a little ray of sunlight to brighten up your mood. Craving a little getaway this month? You’re not alone, it’s the best time to sneak away from the office for some down time. Here are 6 outdoor activities you must do for Spring Break!
1) Outdoor Concert
Whether you enjoy jamming out at the next musical festival (Coachella, anyone?) or spreading good vibes in an EDM rave, an outdoor concert is definitely a fun experience to try this Spring. Every concert has its own unique feature and can attract a different crowd, so each experience is different! Splatter on some face glitter, grab your best buddies, and dance the night away!
2) EAT Everything
When is eating not a good idea? One of the best part about the warmer seasons, is the numerous amount of food festivals around. Take New York City’s weekly Smorgasbord festival, for example, featuring over 100 food vendors across the region, with endless booths of savory BBQ, hand-crafted burgers, trending entrees, nitro ice cream, sweet cookies, cool drinks — need we say more?
3) Drive-Thru Movie or Outdoor Movie Screening
Looking to do something more laid back this Spring Break? Settle in for an drive-thru movie or outdoor screening! Depending on where you live, check with your local community to see what’s being offered. Outdoor screenings are usually free or pretty cheap to tune in, and it’s a good way to kick back and watch a classic with family. Bonus, this event (depending on the movie, of course) can also be kid-friendly!
4) Take a Hike
Quickly! Before the summer heat takes over, Spring (and not to mention Autumn) is the best time to enjoy the great outdoors via hiking! Again, depending on where you live, you might need to take a drive to get to your favorite hiking spot or travel to visit a national park with serene look-outs. It’s time to lace up those sneakers and refill those water bottles!
5) Group Picnic
Looking for the perfect Spring-tastic Instagram pic this season? Grab a red-and-white checkered blanket, a straw basket, and create little picture-perfect sammies for a fun picnic! Once you’re done with your shot, put your phone away and actually spend some time to enjoy the picnic with the fam, friends, or even a hot date! Activities like flying a kite, ultimate frisbee, or even throwing a football are super fun to do too.
6) Jet, Set, Go!
Got your sights set further? For a longer escape this Spring Break, visit a new state or even a new country! Traveling to another country allows you to surround yourself with another culture, which can broaden your eyes and expand your horizons. There’s also a renew sense of adventure and freedom that comes from traveling. Now is the time to visit that place you’ve always wanted to go… or better yet, if you’re looking for travel ideas– scout out the latest flight deals and book it!
