6 Ways to Observe Employee Appreciation Day this Friday
Happy Friday everyone, and if you haven’t heard the news yet, today is Employee Appreciation Day! Employee Appreciation, or Recognition Day is often celebrated in the workplace each year to highlight the achievements of a company’s employees. It’s a way for upper management to show hard-working employees just how much they are valued at work, and to keep them feeling motivated and satisfied with their jobs. Studies also show that happy employees are generally more productive in the workplace. Even if Employee Appreciation Day is not a popular event at your company, you can still celebrate it with your team members! Try some of these easy but fun ideas here!
1. Team Lunch
There’s nothing like a group lunch to bond with your teammates. Taking an outing outside of office walls generally puts people at ease, so it’s a good way to catch up on anything besides work. Or change things up by asking employees to each bring food for a unique office potluck. You can’t really go wrong as long as food is involved!
2. Happy Hour
It’s Friday! Grab a few of your colleagues and hit up the old watering hole for a night out. A much-needed drink or two can help loosen you up after a long work day, and if you are staying away from the alcoholic beverages, ask for some finger foods!
3. Make it a Contest
There’s no denying it, people love winning prizes. One way to show employees how much you appreciate their hard work is to present them with a gift. However, if your budget is a little tight this year, opt for something fun by hosting a raffle drawing or contest for staff members. Little thank you gifts or even non-tangible items like an extra PTO day can be much appreciated.
4. Fun Activity
The possibilities are endless, from bowling to karaoke to mini golf, there’s nothing like a little friendly competition to bond with your coworkers. Don’t forget to make reservations early in the day for places that usually gets crowded!
5. Office Desk Makeover
Valuing employees doesn’t always necessary means treating them to lunch and drinks. Sometimes the best way to show employees how much you appreciate their hard work is by helping them improve their office ergonomics and wellness! For example, sit-to-stand desks have been on the rise due to their numerous health benefits. Granting employees a new desk, computer monitor, or any other office upgrade is definitely a great idea.
6. Town Hall Meeting
Ok, so it may be a little too late to do some of the more interesting ideas as listed above. But you can add some significance to this day with an office town hall meeting. The meeting doesn’t have to be a long one, but having an upper management supervisor verbally acknowledging top performing employees can have a positive impact on the entire group. Granting your employees early dismissal after the meeting is an extra plus!
From all of us here at Shoplet, happy Employee Appreciation Day!
