Colored Pencil Test by gracej
Last semester I took a Fashion Illustration class that helped me to become very familiar with colored pencils and markers. My teacher only ONLY uses prismacolor pencils and I love them too. I tend to like the normal ones better than the Verithin ones because the Verithin ones are very stiff and don’t feel as enjoyable to use (obviously, they are made to draw thinner, more concise lines.) I have a lot of Prismacolor Colored Pencils but close to the end of my semester, I discovered woodless colored pencils. Have you seen or tried them? They are made by Koh-I-Noor and they have a totally different feel! They are heavy in your hand and they are awesome for turning the pencil on the side and shading. They are also cheaper (sometimes) than prismacolor pencils ($1.25 vs $.99)
You can see a comparison between the two below:
The woodless colored pencils are easier to sharpen (there is no lead inside to break) and they seemed to work better with a blender. Overall, I would still choose prismacolor pencils because I like the feel and I love the colors they come in. All I’m saying is that next time you get the chance to try a woodless colored pencil, you should give it a shot! It’s kind of a fun switch up. What kind of colored pencils do you use? Any you would recommend?
