DIY Office Supply Makeover With Washi Tape
Spring is in the air and we are so ready to bring on some color. If you’re like most of us, chances are that your desk is drowning in a sea of drab black and grey office supplies. Now, we’re not saying that we don’t love the look of sleek black office supplies, but maybe it’s time to add a little jazz to your desk accessories. There’s no need to purchase an entirely new set unless you really want to. With a little decorative washi tape, you can upgrade your desk without breaking the bank. What makes washi tape great is that it’s easily removable and repositionable. If you decide you’re over the look, this tape just peels right off. We rounded up a few classic supplies that we thought could use a style upgrade for spring. Check out our DIY office supply makeover!
Totally boring, right? After a little planning and some creativity, we came up with a color blast that’s sure to brighten up any space. The total project time was about 10 minutes and the results were awesome!
We took this classic Oxford folder and spiffy’d it up with an alternating pattern. We loved the geometric feel. When working with tape like this, best results can be achieve by going with the natural flow of the tape lines. Drag your lines from the front to back to create a seamless flow; no matter the direction it takes. You can easily snip away or tuck the ends into the inside of the folder for a cleaner look.
This classic document sorter had an interesting shape despite it’s monochrome appearance. We decided to hi light the shape by placing washi tape on an angle to create a stunning focal point. We used a complementary geometric pattern and finished off with a bold hot pink line. Working with a black background allows your color choices the chance to really pop. We think that it really emphasized this document sorter’s unique shape.
This little cup came to life in an unexpected way with this washi trim. We love that you can still see the texture of the cup inder the tape. We think it adds more interest. Applying washi tape to this one can be a bit tricky. Make sure to trace around your pencil cup slowly in order to maintain even spacing. Also, don’t forget to start and end your seams where the seams of your pencil cup are if applicable.
This one is soooo simple! With a black marker, we colored over the existing binding and then added our washi tape for detail. We think the results were super cute!
