9 Gross Things to Stop Doing at Your Desk Right Now
Hey Shopletters! It’s about to get gross up in this joint! We’re all guilty of doing gross things and being a little less than stellar in the tidiness department. Especially at our desk. Are you still staring at that coffee ring stain from last week? Is that empty food container now a petri dish thats probably harboring the cure for some rare disease? Did you know that your Apple computer keyboard isn’t actually, um, black (cringe). Maaaaybe it’s time to get into some serious spring cleaning, like, right now! Did you know that your desk harbors 400 times more bacteria than the average toilet? Think about it. Your company’s restrooms are routinely cleaned. When was the last time you cleaned your desk? EW! Here are some gross things to stop doing at your desk right now.
Allowing dust bunnies to be a permanent fixture
OK seriously! It’s time time to dust that desk. If you need some motivation, imagine this. Your eating at your desk and a coworker brushes by; sending your dust bunnies air born and right into your magnificent shrimp salad. Bon apetit!
Keeping crusty coffee cups at your desk.
Just. EW. Don’t be that coworker who lines the edges of their desk with to-go coffee cups because you are simply too lazy to make it to the trash can. Get yourself a reusable mug instead so you can simply rinse it out the next time you take a trip to the water cooler. It also reduces waste and will save you money!.
Not washing your water bottle.
It’s just water so it doesn’t need to be cleaned, right? SO wrong! Not giving your water bottle a scrub can result in a build up of germs and eventually mold! Your saliva comes in contact with the water you drink so it only makes sense that mold can occur. Clean that stinky bottle out will ya!
Not taking your gym clothes home.
Do you just keep bringing in clean workout clothes to work and dread bringing them home for a wash? Have you built up quite the laundry basket of gym clothes that you now need to lug home? Leaving your dirty gym clothes at work is not only gross but bad for your health. Leaving clothes to ferment in all of their sweaty glory breeds germs that can cause skin irritation, body acne, yeast infections and other yucky issues. Not to mention it also smells! Get yourself into the habit of for every pair you bring to work, you bring something home.
Not sanitizing your work phone.
Pressing your cheek against your work phone all day can only cause breakouts. Especially if you don’t regularly clean it. Make Lysol wipes your best friend and make sure to clean your phone at least once a week.
Uncovered coughing or sneezing.
Not only is this insanely inconsiderate to your coworkers but coughing all over your desk can leave you open to re-exposure to that very same germ over and over again! Instead, cough or sneeze into the bend of your arm. Better yet, wear a mask. Sure, you’ll look a little strange, but your coworkers will appreciate the effort. You’ll also reduce the chances of spreading cold germs all over your office.
Not washing your hands after the restroom.
Think about everything you touch in a public restroom. When you don’t wash your hands you are effectively spreading all of that bathroom filth to everything you touch thereafter. Your keyboard, computer mouse, your lunch!!! OMG! A little soap and water can save you from yours and other people’s germs.
Not lining your snack drawer with a crumb-catching container.
If you keep snacks at your desk, the best way to catch those crumbs is to keep them in containers. It’s way easier to clean out the crumbs when you can easily lift out a container vs. cleaning out a drawer. It also helps to keep your drawer organized too!
Not cleaning between your keyboard.
Not only will this be soooo satisfying to do but it will also extend the life of your keyboard. To get out hard to grab particles, try a cleaning compound. It’s the perfect excuse to relive your childhood Playdough days!
