Pink for October by Grace
I love how every October I can plan on seeing lots of pink everywhere. Pink football gloves for football players, pink nikes, pink office supplies, pink treats, etc. I’ve always thought how interesting it is that City of Hope and other breast cancer research foundations seem to have a monopoly on the office supplies industry and the month of October. Why don’t we all wear and sell orange in January for brain cancer or wear and sell blue in September for lung cancer? Either way, I love that October is not just about Halloween anymore. To remind me at my house, I created a little pink shrine on one of my bookshelves. What do you do to support breast cancer awareness/research in October?
If you’re not actually sure what you do, but you love pink office supplies (or know someone who does) you should stock up on pink products from Sanford! (Sharpie, Expo, Rolodex, Paper Mate, Parker, Uni-Ball) When you spend $80, they will donate $25 to City of Hope! Here’s a link to the rebate. Check out our pink office supplies section or search for breast cancer awareness on our site.
Or, if you have some pink Sanford products, sign your name in pink and submit it on their website. Every signature they get = $1 they will donate to City of Hope! Here’s more info
Or, check out this post for some great ideas. We asked everyone what they did to support breast cancer awareness. Here are some of their answers:
Get a regular Breast Exam.
My daughter donated her hair to Locks of Love
I have walked with my girlfriends in the Susan Komen breast cancer walk here in downtown Austin
I have sent gift baskets to women who have cancer all over the U.S
I have set up yogurt label bins around my job for my co-workers to input their lids into. And I setup pamphlets around each bin.
I have a pink breast cancer ring that I wear every day in memory of my mother and in honor of my sister.
I took my friend to her chemo treatment and sat with her.
My son (who is 10) and I are also wearing pink ribbon shoelaces in our shoes for the entire month of October.
I handed out pink rubber duckies to all our feminie staff members to remind them of the importance of getting their mammograms
We are having our annual Halloween Bash at work and with this we have a silent auction to raise money.
Now I’m thinking about what clothing item I can color pink..
