Junk Drawer Project: Pretty Up Your Push Pins
Bored to death of looking at the same old desk set up? Dying for an upgrade but not sure what you can do to make your workspace nicer? We’re sure that you have plenty of things right at your desk that with a little craftiness, can make perfect decorations. but first we need to address our good friend the push pin.
An open letter to the push pin: It’s always the little guys that go unnoticed. We know how tough it was to be tucked away in that horrible junk drawer next to crusty rubber bands, a collection of long forgotten twist ties and those dreaded dust bunnies! The horror! Push pin, we want you to know that you are not forgotten and ignored. We know that deep down there is profound beauty underneath your cold, metal… uh….. pushy, nubby parts. It’s time to shine in all your silver glory and show the world how gorgeous you can be. Emerge from the junk drawer, oh push pin! And get ready for a fabulous MAKEOVER!
OK ok enough with the dramatics. With just a few tools and lots of vision, you can create and even upcycle old things into something new and unexpected. Check out our junk drawer projects and maybe you can find inspiration to make some of your own!
This simple DIY project will dress up your pin board in no time and requires virtually no skill! All you need are some fun colored Sharpies and some push pins. Don’t have sharpies? That’s ok! You can use any marker you have. Just make sure it’s of the permanent variety so the colors stay put. Our team gathered up all of the Sharpies we could find and the results were super cute.
Another coloring project that may require some dexterity. If you have a steady hand and a fine tipped permanent marker, why not try emoji’fying your push pins. For this one, You’ll need a yellow Sharpie or permanent marker, a fine tipped permanent marker in black and red (optional) and some good ol’ push pins.
Mini Sticky Board.
Work in a stand alone space? There’s no need to forgo a pinboard altogether. Opt for a mini one instead! All you need is an old picture frame, some colored paper and cork tiles like these to make this cute little attention getter. Line your paper seams with push pins to add an upholstered look. You can add some colored push pins too! This board is best used for sticky memos so you don’t pierce the paper background full of holes. If you prefer to post your memo’s using more push pins, we recommend leaving the background plain cork.
Here’s a great up cycling idea! Have some old buttons lying around? Broken earrings? With a little crazy glue, old things can be new again! We’ve all received holiday or special occasion gifts that come with bows or other cute packaging. We don’t know about you but some bows are just too pretty to throw away once the chocolate box is empty. Now you don’t have to. Clip away the string and crazy glue a push pin on the back a voila’! You just scored yourself a darling little posh pin!
For some instant gratification requiring no artistic prowess, try bordering your favorite quote or thank you cards with pins. Trying different patterns and arrangements will definitely add some instant glam.
