The World’s Largest Rubber Band Ball

I had no idea how often people try to beat the world’s largest rubber band ball record. The current record holder is Joel Waul. Before him it was Steve Milton and before him it was John Bain. (Click their names to read about each of them) Joel Waul is definitely my favorite. A guy from South Florida who was watching the Ripley’s Believe or Not TV Show where they attempted to drop a rubber band ball into the Mojave Desert to see if it would bounce. (It didn’t.) He was obsessed with the idea of making a giant rubber band ball and found some rubber bands to start working on it. I like that the ball’s original name was ‘Nugget’ after the chicken nuggets he had just eaten.

During my time spent searching for rubber band balls in google images, I found that there are a lot of different rubber band ball colors and designs. I really want to make one! I’m adding that to my goal list for January 2012. Just so you know, your rubber band ball is legit if it ONLY contains rubber bands. If you use something else in the center, then it doesn’t count. (so I’ve read)

Have you made one? Any tips for me?
