Promos Done Right- New York Comic Con
Halloween arrives early every year in NYC with the coming of the New York Comic Con. It’s a feast for the eyes with cosplay and costumes galore. One of pop culture’s most popular and largest conventions, draws attendees from all over the country who hope to gain access to exclusive panels, merchandise, celebrity appearances and freebies. Courtesy of our friends at Chevrolet, one of the Comic Con’s featured partners, Shoplet Promos had the opportunity to see what this year’s Con had to offer. We talked to our friends at Chevrolet and some other exhibitors to see what kinds of promotional products were a hit with attendees. Here are the highlights.
We spoke to Chevrolet representative, Doice John, about their awesome booth. The Chevy booth featured 2014 and 2015 models that are famous for their appearances in various super hero flicks. We saw the Trax, Cruze, Corvette and of course the insanely popular Camaro. Chevy had multiple footprints around the convention space, making sure to cover lots of ground and be front and center with consumers.
“We are so happy to be apart of this event that we wanted to give each attendee a free gift. We have limited edition Comic Con tee shirts in which we change the art every year. All you have to do is take a quick survey and our thanks to you is this awesome tee as well as a comic book. Both of which are only available here at the show. Of course people love our cars. We have so many fun cars. Especially Bumble Bee, which is our 2014 Camaro and was featured in the movie Transformers. So we gotta have the main Transformer here right?”
Geico tour manager, Sean Martin, showed us around his sweet set up. BusinessInsider.com rated these guys as part of their top 22 must see footprints at the Con. Of course we had to check it out for ourselves. Their tour bus featured tons of product, a stage and a karaoke recording studio! As far as promotional products were concerned, Geico was definitely a winner.
“Everybody loves the gecko. We have a limited edition Super Gecko that we are doing just for Comic Con. We also have Maxwell the Pig, the caveman bobble head, sunglasses, bags, and of course our Super Geico tee shirts. Every hour, we host a trivia contest. Whoever shouts the correct answers first receives a promotional tee shirt and other various prizes. We also have a costume fashion show. The crowd determines who wins, and the winner gets a $200 gift card as well as some of the various promotional items. Promotional products are a vital part of the success of our campaign. Everyone identifies with Geico through our various mascots. They resonate with people. These items translates characters that consumers have always seen in our ads into something real and tangible. Having these at shows like this is a gigantic part of our marketing campaign.”
For those who are forever kids at heart, Mega Blocks was the place to be. Mega Blocks were expert at showcasing their new licenses which included Sponge bob, Halo and Call of duty. Mega Blocks decided to give away individually packaged micro action figures of each license to consumers who took photos at their booth. Brand representative Stephanie Paceno talked to us about the Mega Blocks experience.
“The most popular item is definitely the Sponge Bob micro action figure. It’s a new license for us and Sponge Bob is an iconic figure that kids go crazy for. Aside from our Micro Action figure giveaway, we have building stations set up around the footprint. Part of our marketing includes allowing consumers to dig into our blocks and create something that they can take away as a keepsake. We get lots of families that hang out with us and create their very own custom souvenir right here at the NYCC. For people who come and take a photo with our model Sponge Bob, we will give out a Sponge Bob micro action figure. With Mega Blocks, you wont leave empty handed.
Here are some other promotional products we saw floating around the Con.
