Being stuck in a dreary and lifeless sea of cubicles can make your daily work routine a real bummer. Usually with drab upholstery, fluorescent lighting and an uncomfortable chair, cubicles don’t exactly create an environment for quality and enjoyable productivity.
I realize that you can only do so much to alter the cubicle space (I don’t think the owner of your company would appreciate you painting the walls or resurfacing the workspace). Luckily, I am here to help with a few easy tips.
1. COVER THOSE UGLY WALLS
Hit your local fabric store and find a fabulous print or color to jazz things up a bit. If you have the cube walls with padding, you can just pin the fabric on. If you have metal walls, go for a heavy duty double-sided tape. You can also search around for a great wallpaper or even contact paper. Looking for something simpler? Add artwork, hanging vases or a fun corkboard. The key is to cover as much space as possible.
2. SPLASH ON SOME PERSONALITY
What makes you happy? What are your fondest memories? Your answers to these questions should be brought to your cubicle. You spend more time at work than you do waking hours at home. Your work area should be a place that you enjoy going to and reflects your personal style. Even if you hate the job. Add photos, decorative garland or your favorite tschotske. Have fun with this!
3. LIGHTING MAKES A SPACE
Lighting is one of the most often overlooked elements in design. It can change the whole look and feel of your space. Try adding a small lamp or, if you’re feeling really ambitious, install a hanging light fixture.
