Celebrating Halloween At Work
Let’s take back the night! Halloween is such a fun holiday to celebrate that kids shouldn’t be the only ones enjoying it. What’s great about this holiday is that it’s not related to any religious custom so it’s safe to observe at work without offending diverse employees. Celebrating Halloween at work is also a great idea to boost team morale and inspire a thrilling office tradition. Before we get Human Resources in trouble, here are some notes to keep in mind to make Halloween at work fun and safe for everyone!
Who plans it? HR shouldn’t always have to do the planning for all office functions. To start a fun tradition and boost up team spirit, split up the holiday responsibilities within each department in the company. Rotating responsibilities each year can generate new ideas. Plus, employees can put their event coordination skills to use!
What’s the dress code? To avoid being the only one awkwardly walking around in a full-fledge horrific costume all day, make sure to find out your office holiday custom- especially for those new hires out there! If employees typically enjoy getting dress up, make sure your costume is appropriate for the workplace. Avoid revealing or tight clothes and don’t wear an outfit if it’s going to limit movement and your ability to get work done.
What are some fun ideas? Depending on the level of involvement you’re willing to commit, celebrating Halloween doesn’t have to be too complicated. Employees will have a good time whether they’re enjoying sweet Halloween treats on their lunch break or venturing into a haunted office Halloween party. Order frosted donuts and cupcakes with striking orange and black hues. Or play a candy guessing game and have employees submit their answers on their free time to limit distractions from work. If employees love getting dressed up, why not hold a costume contest at the end of the work day and hand out awards with small prizes!
How else can you get in the spirit? You can still have some Halloween fun even if you don’t like getting dressed up. Try decorating your cubicle! Make your desk space scream Halloween by decorating it. Stringing fake cobwebs over your desk is simple and adds a spooky vibe! Check out Shoplet for decorations and other Halloween-inspired office supplies. Want to make your co-workers happy? Keep a jar of candy and chocolates near your desk and allow people to help themselves!
Don’t jump overboard with planning out every detail. Halloween should be a fun stress-free holiday enjoyed by everyone! But remember, some people aren’t too crazy about Halloween, so avoid pressuring your co-workers into celebrating.
