1. Get a Healthy Head Start
Biiiiing! Your alarm has rung for the 7th time, but you’ve been lazily hitting the Snooze button because you can’t seem to get out of bed. Research shows that snoozing can actually make your body feel worse and confuse because each time you nod back into sleep, your sleep cycle restarts. Make the attempt to push yourself up and get your day rolling! If it’s a work day, prepare your outfit attire prior to the morning, so it doesn’t take you too much time to get ready. Head out a bit early if you can to prevent rushing to your destination – morning traffic has been shown to be a stressful situation.
2. Power Up Your Diet
We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Why? This meal provides you with the nutrients to fuel your body, so make sure you refill on the good stuff. Load up on healthy starters like oatmeal, Greek yogurt, fruit (grapefruit, oranges, bananas, and blueberries), eggs, flaxseed, and/or whole wheat toast!
3. Plan Ahead
Make a list of your priorities so you can easily keep track of your tasks and To-Do lists! By completing each individual project based on a due date, you’ll avoid procrastinating and stressing over incomplete tasks. Working on a schedule can also accommodate last-minute meetings that may come up! Try a planner or calendar to keep track of any appointments, conference meetings, project deadlines, and etc. Next step, actually stick by it!
4. Stretch, Take a Walk, and/or Make Time for Exercise
We all get overwhelm at times, so it’s important to know how to de-stress and calm ourselves down. When we’re feeling burned out, it’s time to remove ourselves from the situation, like taking a walk and stretching. Turn your focus on to something else! And no matter how busy your week is, try to make time for exercise. Not a fan of running? Perform some yoga stunts to relieve tension! Studies show that just 30 minutes of light cardio a day can make you feel 100% way better.
5. Write it Down
If you’re feeling frustrated about a particular situation, try writing down your experience. Be specific about what the issue was and why it bothered you. Research shows that putting your thoughts on paper can help you release some stress. Keep a journal or jot down your thoughts on a notepad. Whether you want to shred paper into itty-itty afterwards, that’s up to you!
6. Listen to Happy Music
Music can lift your spirit. It’s true, take a look at your exercise playlist. Is it full with rhythm-pumping energetic beats? Top 40, Rap, and EDM soundtracks, for example, tend to make you feel energize, like you’re ready to hit the dance floor and burn those calories! For a happy relaxing mood, try some of the classics (hello, Mozart) or light pop music. Feel free to sing along too!
People are built upon relationships. We are social creatures who enjoy the company of others (maybe not every day, but definitely once in a while!). When you’re starting to feel stressed, talk it out. Confide in your sister, brother, friend, or even a co-worker. Talking about what’s bothering you can help you isolate the situation and focus on what really matters.
