Team Building Activity – Corporate Dodgeball.

Team Pic from Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

In a few weeks, many of the Shoplet employees will be walking/running in the American Heart Association Wall Street Run. I’ve discovered that company activities can be hard to plan because we all have different interests and things we like to do in our spare time. (obviously) A few days ago I received a Product Review for the awesome Dodge Ball Set we carry. The reviewer says “I love these balls for elementary kids. They are easy to grip, are soft enough to not hurt someone while playing dodgeball, yet sturdy enough to throw hard. The skin is tough and durable.”

This comment got me thinking. Is a company dodgeball team a good idea? If you google “corporate dodgeball” you’ll find it’s a pretty popular activity. I can see that it’s a team building activity if you are all on the same team, competing against another company. But what if you played amongst yourselves as a company? Now that’s a bad idea.

If you made someone mad the day of the game, you better look out that night! These dodge balls may be soft for kids who have no arm muscle to throw but if it’s a 40 year old man who works out everyday and is ticked because someone stole his lunch out of the fridge, you better look out!

P.S. I guess corporate dodgeball is also used to describe some sort of marketing or entrepreneurial difficulty. This is not what I’m talking about.

P.P.S. What’s your favorite company activity? (if any.) Comment below!

Ha curling I like that idea!

  • Dodgeball is so violent. Or maybe I’m just an easy target. Gradeschool was difficult. How about curling? Nothing says team spirit like coaxing rocks around on the ice with little brooms.
